Do you feel lonely or isolated?

Did You Know?

  • Over 40% of us will feel lonely at some point in our lives.
  • Loneliness and isolation are especially common among the elderly.
  • Loneliness doesn’t only affect us mentally, but physically as well:
    • Chronic loneliness significantly increases our risk of cardiovascular disease.
    • Loneliness suppresses the functioning of our immune system.
    • Chronic loneliness increases our risk of an early death by 14%.

What Can I Try?

  • Check in with friends or neighbors who live alone on a regular basis.

  • If you feel isolated, check in with a health care provider about the possibility of a mental health issue. Depression can make you feel alone or unable to identify with the person around them.

  • Seek out activities that help you engage with the community.
